Oprah Winfrey has always done things that have a lasting effect on all. Unless memorialized, just like finding out that Marilyn Monroe was an avid reader, the public wouldn't think stars (earning millions) love to read.
My favorite reviews to read on books are those from Julia Roberts. The way she described the pleasure she gets by sitting a hundred possible ways on a bean bag while reading made me identify with her. Her choices of books ranged from one given as a book assignment in highs school to several bestsellers that are deep reads. It was amusing that during high school, a grading system was customized for their English subject, their grades were based on creativity and content. This was after Julia wrote and talk by way of William Faulkner, in sentences supported by lots of commas and only one period. The book Wild Palms is still very much around and a favorite book assignment. Another celebrity who impressed me by the voracious reading he does. Hugh Jackman has a selection I wouldn't have read through but just knowing that he changed the way he run his company because of a certain book's message made me go WOW!
Book reading is being brought back and with good reason, fostering above average reading skills and spelling capability. Aside from those, a child learns to practice patience and nurture creativity. The habit of reading at an early age help children develop their synapses and brain function to its capacity.
Oprah's exposure of celebrities supporting and practicing book reading have an impact on both parent and child. A child can't be forced to read if Mommy and Daddy don not.
